Tips For Shy People To Get Self Confidence

Being shy can be a debilitating problem.  It can keep you from going on dates, making friends, or even progressing in your career.  If you are extremely shy, you need to follow a few simple tips to help overcome shyness.

Don’t try to cure your shyness all at once.  Begin with small steps or you may find yourself frustrated.  Don’t put too much pressure on yourself by thinking you can overcome shyness suddenly or too quickly.  The best thing to do is take your time, attacking different areas of shyness little by little.  Begin by making a list of every situation that arouses feelings of shyness in you.

This may mean that you list talking to individuals of the opposite sex.  For some people, it may be trouble talking and functioning in any social situation.  Everyone is unique and the amount of shyness you feel in any given situation may be unique.  It is generally easier for anyone to have a short chat than to have a lengthy conversation.  It is also usually easier to speak with someone you know than to talk with a group of strangers.

Take time to list, either on paper or on a word processor, every situation that makes you feel shy.  List every situation you can think of.  Once they are listed, sort the situations in order of difficulty.  You may find it easy talking to a family member.  If a situation doesn’t cause you any shyness issues at all don’t add it to your list.

Some shy individuals find it difficult making small talk with a store clerk.  Others can’t stand the thought of having a conversation with the opposite sex.  Identify and sort through your shyness issues.  Then, you will be able to tackle them methodically, one at a time.  Once you identify the first item on your list, resolve to put yourself into a situation involving that area of shyness every single day.

By facing your shyness, you will eventually be able to overcome it.  Begin to make small talk with store clerks or those around you in line.  Just begin with an easy line or two.  You will find most people willing to engage in small talk.  Intentionally place yourself in uncomfortable social situations in order to overcome shyness.
