How To Practice Self Esteem Affirmations

Posted on 06 September 2010

Are you searching for a practical and effective strategy to develop self esteem? Have you considered using self esteem affirmations? Affirmations are a powerful strategy for building self-esteem and for becoming a happy person. This is because positive affirmations empower you with the ability to change your old mindset and your inner dialogues upon which your low self-esteem is built. So why is that so many people aren’t using this strategy? This is because many people are not aware of the power of their own affirmations that can be used to achieve the desired results.

Fortunately there’s an easy strategy you can follow to build positive affirmations that provide excellent results. This article will provide you a simple method for creating and using your own self esteem affirmations.

1. Describe Your Standards

Before writing down your self esteem affirmations, you need to describe your standards first for improving self-esteem. For example, what is your idea of a person of good self confidence? Then, start to describe the standards upon which you’re going to build your positive affirmations by observing the actions of an individual with positive confidence. Remember, the essence of doing this step is to give your brain a picture, or directions, of what you think having high self esteem looks like.

Then your subconscious (which is what you target to influence using your affirmations) responds to instructions. Try to be as specific as possible and the best way to do that is by describing definite actions which represent high self esteem. For instance, speaking to stranger naturally, communicating effectively. Make sure you have written down a list of actions that you believe to represent a confident person.

2. Follow The Formula Of Positive Affirmations

There are four principles with which your self esteem affirmations need to comply. First, they have to be in the present tense; secondly, they have to be affirmative; thirdly, they have to be in the first person; and lastly, they have to be action driven (i.e. accordig to the actions as described in step one). Here are some examples:

“I’m assertive in my business negotiations.”

“I approach strangers and engage them in conversations with ease.”

“I’m great at closing sales.”

Notice how the four principles are applied in the above self esteem affirmations:

They’re all in the present tense

They’re all affirmative

They’re all in the first person

They all involve a specific action

Once you write your affirmations following these guidelines, there’s only one thing left to do, and that is:

3. Say Your Affirmations

Applying self esteem affirmations is a gradual process that needs to be done on a regular and consistent basis. For best performance, say your affirmations aloud once after you wake up in the morning and once before going to bed. This step is important because you are actually training your mind to accomplish things according to the directions previously given. This no different from how you train your body to make it fit. In either case, consistent exercise is needed.

Say your self esteem affirmations on a daily basis. You can think of new ones to attain other goals. This is a life-long commitment, and you will develop a sense of great confidence which is a natural part of you.
